Family bluebell photoshoot Sussex

Are you interested in a Bluebell Photoshoot in Sussex?  One of my post popular locations for Family Photography in Spring is in the bluebell woods around West Sussex.  Bluebells provide such a beautiful background for family photos and are an extremely popular location for photos.

The bluebells are weather dependent and can flower anytime from mid-April to the end of May. For this reason, we need to be a little bit more flexible on dates if it’s the backdrop of bluebells you are after for your family photo shoot. It’s best to pencil a date in the diary (I can do weekend days too) and I’ll keep a watch on the bluebells during my family dog walks in case I need to adjust our shoot dates. I’m not currently offering mini sessions in the bluebells as it’s difficult to pick exact dates in advance.

ALEX WAS GREAT AT GETTING THE KIDS TO COME OUT OF THEIR SHELL AND WE ALL THOROUGHLY ENJOYED OURSELVES

We had the pleasure of having a Bluebell Photoshoot near our home in Sussex with Alex in this week. Alex was super organised, professional and so approachable. She was great at getting the kids to come out of their shells and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The photos are stunning, totally capturing the moment and of course, are great quality. If you’re looking for a family photographer who knows what they are doing, puts you at ease and produces beautiful work with passion then Alex is your lady!

WHAT TO WEAR FOR YOUR BLUEBELL PHOTOSHOOT

When you book a family photography shoot with me I’ll send you a guide on what to expect during your session which includes clothing tips for children and parents. For your bluebells photoshoot, I’d advise you to stick to more pastel and natural colours – blue and purple always work and yellow is great if you are looking for a contrasting colour to the bluebells.  Make sure your little ones are warm as whatever the weather it’s often colder in the shadier woods. Gilets on children always look good for photos and can be whisked off for some alternative shots too.

Bring your dog . . .

As always, dogs are always welcome on your family photo shoot. They always seem to have a fantastic time in the bluebells and enjoy a walk as much as the families!

My favourite locations to view bluebells in Sussex . . .

I’m based near Haywards Heath near West Sussex and am lucky to be surrounded by so many beautiful bluebell woods – here are some of my favourites to photograph:

Borde Hill Gardens, Haywards Heath

One of my favourite stomping grounds and photo shoot locations! Head towards the back of the garden and into the woods to find the bluebells. The image above was taken during one of my bluebell sessions there.

Wakehurst Place, Ardingly, near Haywards Heath (National Trust/Kew)

Another one of my favourite places to relax. The white trunks of the silver birch trees provide an absolutely beautiful backdrop for stunning photos of the bluebells in Bethlehem Wood.

Nymans Woods, Handcross near Haywards Heath

Nymans woodland has huge amounts of bluebells and wider paths than a lot of bluebell woods. One of my favourite locations for family dog walks.

Standen Estate, East Grinstead, (National Trust)

Another great location for bluebell walks in Sussex

You can find the bluebell woods nearest to you on this National Trust page

A note on protecting the bluebells . . .

Bluebells are a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.  It’s so important that we don’t trample the beautiful flowers when we are taking photos. Crushed bluebells can take years to recover. As your family photographer, I’ll guide you through the bluebell woods making use of the paths and bare patches. I’ll ask children and families to sit on fallen tree trunks and logs. By choosing my angles carefully and crouching down I can make it look like the children are sitting amongst the bluebells but I’ve carefully positioned them on a path or a bare patch. I won’t ask children to pick bluebells during our photo shoot.
