My photography courses based in Sussex are hugely popular with children and teenagers. I’ve been a professional photographer for over twelve years and started to run my children’s photography courses in 2019. I can’t tell you how much joy I get from seeing enthusiastic children outside enjoying photography, it is honestly a pleasure to teach them all.
Whether you are new to photography or looking to improve your existing skills I have the photography course for you or your child. My Phoneography Course is designed to introduce younger children to photography and encourage them to take more creative photos using their phones. Detailed information on each course is provided below.
My courses are held in various locations around Sussex and sell out quickly to those who are on my Priority Waiting List (see form below). Please complete the priority form if you can’t make the dates but you’d like to be the first to know when new dates are released.

PHONEOGRAPHY COURSE FOR CHILDREN
A great practical first photography course for young photographers introducing children to composition, colours and framing techniques. Children can use mobile phones and i-pads for this course.
We will learn to view the world with new eyes as we wander around taking lots of creative photos and learning some of the fundamentals of photography as we go.
Two-hour course, suitable for children aged 8+
Cost: £40 per person
An Introduction to Photography (using cameras)
My 3-hour Introduction to Photography Course is ideal for children and teens (aged 11+ years old) The course is not technical and most of what I am teaching will be relevant to taking photos on any device. I will cover composition, colour and a little on camera settings (taking your camera off ‘auto’). You don’t need a big fancy camera – a little point-and-shoot will do.
The course is practical and there will be several opportunities for the teens to take their pictures using techniques that we have learnt as we go along – it’s a great foundation for photography and a good introduction for those considering GCSE photography. I would recommend GCSE students start with this course before signing up for the intermediate course.
Cost: £50 per person
INTERMEDIATE PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE FOR TEENAGERS
If your teenager has already taken my Introductory course or has started using shutter and aperture priority this is the course for them. Ideal for teenagers taking Photography GCSE who want to develop their technical photography skills further. I’ll help them get to grips with their camera, teach them some tricks and delve further into camera settings. Together we’ll get their camera off auto mode and on to full manual mode.
Cost: £50 per person
ONE-TO-ONE TRAINING
Are you a small business owner who’d like to take better photos for your social media and marketing? A parent who’d like to learn how your camera works in order to take better portraits of your family? Or a student who’d like help with your GCSE coursework or camera settings? Take yourself to the next level with my one-to-one photography workshops tailored specifically to you.

If I hadn’t come on your junior photography course I wouldn’t have thought about the rule of thirds or colour coordination whilst taking pictures but you have opened up my eyes to a whole new aspect of photography which I appreciate very much! Where do you run your junior photography courses?
I regularly run my Photography Courses in Brighton and Crawley, Sussex. I’m open to suggestions of new locations though and am also able to run bespoke courses if you wish.
WHO ARE THE COURSES FOR?
I run various Photography Courses in Sussex for children and teenagers. Please read the sections above for more details on each course.
WHAT CAMERA WILL THE CHILDREN NEED?
For phone courses – anything that can take pictures – phones and i-pads are great!
For camera courses – Ideally, you’ll have a camera (either a DSLR, compact or mirrorless) with Manual Mode (usually M, A/AV, Tv/S, P on the mode dial).
Please don’t feel like you need to invest in new cameras before your course, I’m a strong believer in making the most of the equipment you have!
WHAT SHOULD WE BRING ON THE COURSE?
- A charged battery and empty memory card
- A drink and snack
- A bag that you can throw over your shoulder to keep everything in as we walk around
- Comfy shoes!
