I was delighted when The Fresh Fish Shop in Haywards Heath, (West Sussex) asked me to do some food photography for them. I’d previously photographed a lot of fish at the Eden Project in Cornwall so I knew how photogenic fish could be. The Fresh Fish Shop loved the style of the previous fish pictures I had taken and my use of props and backgrounds.
This commission was at the beginning of the Covid-19 Lockdown in May 2020 so I decided it would be best to photograph all the images in my home studio in Ardingly. I enjoyed sourcing backgrounds without venturing far from my house and after putting a shout-out on Facebook I managed to pick up some slate and floor tiles from friends locally. My neighbour was dismantling her shed so kindly gave me the blue door which made a great wooden background (you can see it in the oyster image above!).
Here’s a selection of images from Days One and Two. I cropped the images in a square for the catalogue and Instagram and thought they worked well as montages. I’ll post day 3 very soon. A lot of you are asking if I got to eat the fish, I’m delighted to say I did and it was delicious!
It’s always great to receive feedback for my work and I love this recommendation for my Food Photography from The Fresh Fish Shop, Haywards Heath . . . .
” We couldn’t recommend Alex more, a true professional following her passion which clearly translates through her work”
